Pimly's new monthly newsletter, The Ground Truth, sent its first issue this August. Issue 01 carries one idea from Pimly's CEO on why AI keeps guessing instead of answering, a look at why Agentforce rollouts are stalling industry-wide (hint: it's not an Agentforce shortfall), two features that shipped this month, and a first look at the AI agent arriving this fall. Here's the full recap, with links to everything it referenced.

The issue's core argument is a simple one: an AI system only answers as well as the data underneath it. When product information is split across PDFs, spreadsheets, and disconnected systems, an AI agent doesn't refuse to answer — it fills the gap with its best guess, delivered with exactly the same confidence as a verified fact. That's the guessing-machine problem this first issue of the newsletter opens with, and it's the throughline for everything else in the issue.

A sales rep asks whether a module is compatible with the X-3000. A service agent needs the current replacement for a part that's been discontinued. Simple questions, if the answer lives in one place — but for a lot of manufacturers and CG brands running Salesforce, that same answer is scattered across three PDFs, a spreadsheet, and two separate systems. Ask an AI agent to bridge that gap on its own, and it will. Right up until the answer is wrong.

Key takeaways

  • Reps and service agents get answers they can act on immediately — not guesses dressed up as facts — once product data is centralized and governed instead of scattered across PDFs, spreadsheets, and disconnected systems.
  • The Take, written by Founder and CEO Mike Dannenfeldt, argues that reducing what AI has to guess about is what actually makes an AI investment pay off.
  • Industry data backs that up: only 16% of distributors who expected pricing AI to lift margin by 2% or more have actually gotten there, and the gap is organizational readiness, not the AI itself.
  • Two features shipped in August: (1) SmartSync, which pushes product data to Agentforce Revenue Management, Agentforce Commerce, Sales and Service Clouds and Shopify, and (2) Assets, for secure asset sharing with partners.
  • Vera, Pimly's new AI agent, arrives this fall as the next piece of Product Intelligence — and she cites her sources.

The Take: your AI is a guessing machine

Most of the AI conversation right now is about picking a model — which one is most accurate, most reliable and secure, the one that won't embarrass you in front of a customer. Fair question, Mike Dannenfeldt, Founder and CEO of Pimly, writes in this issue's opening essay. It's also the smaller half of the answer.

For AI to land on the right answer, the underlying data has to be organized and available for the AI's context to draw from. An AI agent working on top of an incomplete dataset doesn't have the context to deliver a trustworthy result — so what comes back is a half-truth, delivered with exactly the same confidence as a real one.

"No AI system is perfect," Dannenfeldt writes. "They're autonomous guessing machines, after all."

So the goal isn't a perfect answer. It's reducing all the ways an AI agent can miss the context it needs, so the odds of a reliable, trustworthy answer go way up. That's the job a governed, structured PIM does: it sits underneath as the context the guessing machine reads from, and responses get more reliable and more trustworthy for every team member who relies on them — sales reps, service agents, ecommerce operators, marketers, and AI agents alike. Which shows up exactly where you'd want it to: reps closing more deals, service teams resolving cases faster.

Before funding the next rollout, the essay's closing point is worth sitting with: go look at what your AI would actually have to read to answer a real customer question. It's cheaper to know now than after the budget is spent.

Worth your time: why Agentforce rollouts stall

Every issue of The Ground Truth includes one outside read and one number worth knowing. This month's read: "Why Agentforce Adoption Is Slower Than Expected – And What Salesforce Needs to Do" from Salesforce Ben.

Pimly's take on it: plenty of agents are being built. Few are making it to production, and the difference is org readiness. The rollouts that survive are the ones where the data was ready before the agent was — the same argument The Take makes, from an outside source.

The number worth knowing: 73% of distributors expected pricing AI to lift margin by 2% or more. Only 16% have actually gotten there, according to Modern Distribution Management's "In Pursuit of Value" research (April 2026). That's not a model problem. It's the same product data readiness gap showing up in a different industry's numbers.

Available now

SmartSync

Update a product once, and every channel sells the current, correct version — automatically. SmartSync pushes your governed product catalog to Agentforce Revenue Management (ARM) as well as Agentforce Commerce, Sales and Service Clouds, and it only pushes what changed. No export-import dance, point-and-click setup, and a per-step log when you want the receipts. Each endpoint is a configuration inside Pimly, not a separate integration project someone has to build and maintain.

We even use the same SmartSync technology to ship your governed, structured product catalog to Shopify.

Assets

Share the right asset with the right partner without emailing a zip file. Uploads are private by default, share links expire on your schedule, and a one-click shareable link gets an asset out the door the moment you decide it should go — no digging through old email threads to find the current version of a spec sheet.

Coming this fall: meet Vera

Coming this fall

Vera

Vera is Pimly's new AI agent and the next critical layer of Product Intelligence. Anything you'd normally click through Pimly to do with your product data, you'll be able to ask her instead, in plain English. She arrives this fall, and when she does, she'll cite her sources — so the answer a rep or service agent gets back is traceable to the actual record it came from, not just asserted.

Why this issue matters for your team

Whether it's the essay on reducing what AI has to guess about, the industry data on stalled Agentforce rollouts, or the two features that shipped this month, the throughline is the same: product data has to be ready before the AI agent is. When it is, sales reps get accurate answers grounded in real product data instead of a best guess, service agents resolve cases without escalating to engineering, and ecommerce operators merchandise from the same current catalog everyone else is quoting from.

The result: every rep becomes a product expert — answering confidently, quoting accurately, and winning more deals.

Frequently asked questions

What is The Ground Truth?

The Ground Truth is Pimly's monthly briefing on what actually happens when AI meets product data. Each issue opens with an opinion essay from someone at Pimly, includes one outside article and one industry stat with zero Pimly content, and closes with what Pimly shipped that month and what's coming next. Issue 01 went out in August 2026.

What did Pimly launch in Summer 2026?

Pimly launched two major features this summer: SmartSync and Assets. SmartSync pushes a governed product catalog to Agentforce Revenue Management (ARM), Agentforce Commerce, Sales and Service Clouds and even to Shopify, updating only the records that changed instead of requiring a full re-export. Assets lets teams share the right file with the right partner through a private-by-default share link that can expire on a schedule instead of emailing a zip file.

How is SmartSync different from a typical external PIM integration?

A standalone or external PIM has to be integrated with each Salesforce cloud it needs to reach, and that integration often only carries a subset of the product data across, which limits the context an AI agent has to work from. SmartSync runs natively inside Pimly, so reaching a new Salesforce endpoint or Shopify is a configuration inside the platform, not a separate integration project with its own maintenance burden. That's also why it can push only what changed instead of re-syncing the whole catalog every time.

Why do AI agents give wrong answers even when the LLM model is good?

An AI agent is only as reliable as the data it can see. When product information is split across PDFs, spreadsheets, and disconnected systems, the agent doesn't refuse to answer a question it can't fully verify — it fills the gap with its best guess and delivers it with the same confidence as a verified fact. Governed, structured product data gives the agent complete context to draw from, which is what turns a guess into an accurate, trustworthy answer.

Who is Vera, and when is she launching?

Vera is Pimly's new AI agent and the next piece of Product Intelligence, arriving this fall. She's designed to handle anything a person would normally click through Pimly's interface to do with their product data, including creating records, fixing errors, and answering questions, through a plain-English request instead. When she answers, she'll cite the source record behind that answer, so reps and service agents can verify it rather than just trust it.
